What to expect on your first visit

If you are coming for a comprehensive exam, it is likely you will be dilated. That means the doctor will instill a drop to dilate your pupil so that he or she can get a better view of your retina (the back of your eye). This is the gold standard. You may have experienced photos taken at other offices without having been dilated, but these photos do not replace a dilated exam. Photos will be taken regardless.

Adults: Expect an hour for a dilated exam.

Children: Expect two hours for a dilated exam. Children and parents/caregivers may leave the office while dilating and will be told when to return.

Dilating drops will wear off after a couple of hours, but you will be blurry up close. Most people feel comfortable to drive themselves home with sunglasses. If you are sensitive to dilation, please plan to be driven home.

Co-pays and balances are due at the time of service. We do not accept vision insurance. Please also be aware that most medical insurances do not cover refractions and therefore a balance will be assessed after the claim is processed. Typically this is $35.
